Great work. I especially love this: "More practical was aristocratic government, in which a manageable number of superior men administered the state. But it tended to degenerate into the self-interested rule of the wealthy or permanent power for a hereditary clique." Basically the USA at the current time. I never believed we were a democracy at any point and we are echoing the downfall of past kingdoms.
PS: Would it be possible to add a dark mode to your sub stack? I think it'd be easier to read in the evenings. Thanks!
I think technically we live in a Republic, in which oligarchy is "balanced" by democratic institutions (which have become corrupted and coopted). Is dark mode something I set up on my end?
I think so. When I looked up how to set up dark mode, it's a preference for your posts. However, I just found a Chrome extension that turns it dark, so no worries on my end 👍
